Careers
with CGC Event Caterers

CGC Event Caterers is a big employer in the local community. In addition to our full-timers, during busy events staff numbers swell to over 1,000 people.

We favour using local staff and retaining them, valuing loyalty and commitment. This year we awarded 15 long service awards to colleagues with a total of 350 years’ service between them.

People and exceptional service are what sets CGC Event Caterers apart from the crowd. Personal service and great food are the core of our business. Catering is a stressful business and we work long hours in sometimes difficult conditions. To have kept so many people with us for so many years is a testament to their commitment and loyalty and our commitment to them.

Event catering is hard work; you have to put your body and soul into it. It requires lots of forward planning combined with good decision making skills on the day. We train our managers and chefs to lead from the front and think quickly on their feet.

We pride ourselves in our teamwork. Many companies claim this but don’t always ‘walk the talk’. We have a flat structure; that is to say when we’re on site delivering the service it doesn’t matter what your title is, you get stuck in along with your colleagues. We want people to succeed (and our customers to keep coming back) so our culture is a supportive one. If you’re in trouble you’ll find people there to help you. If you don’t believe this ask one of our colleagues.

Permanent, fulltime positions

Management
Many of our senior managers and board members have started from the bottom as trainees and worked their way up. Some have joined part way through their careers as event managers. Good people succeed in CGC.

Chefs
With a commitment to craft catering we need talented and well trained chefs. But don’t let that put you off. If you’re starting out, we’ll train you alongside some of the best chefs in the north.

Sales
We have a talented team in our sales offices but as we’re well aware sales talent is hard to find. The roles combine dealing with sales enquiries and proactive selling (cold calling). We have to be proactive in the marketplace to ensure we achieve more than our share of the business available.

Part time, seasonal and casual work

We employ literally thousands of staff during our busy summer season from many different locations in the North and Midlands: Newcastle, Sunderland, Teeside, York, Hull, Pontefract, Rotherham/Sheffield, Doncaster and Lincoln. We provide transport to and from work for events outside your town and a packed lunch to keep you refreshed during the day. If you fancy bar or waiting work provided you’re over 18, of smart appearance, with a good command of the English language and come from or near one of the towns and cities above please contact us.

Marquee Erectors

If you have experience in erecting marquees, then we would like to hear from you. Even if you don’t have any experience then we would still like to hear from you. All we ask is that you are:

  • Fit and energetic.
  • Not afraid of hard physical work
  • Enjoy working outdoors
  • Able to deal with customers and colleagues in a friendly manner and solve problems on site by your own initiative
  • Self motivated and are able to get to our Leeds depot.

We start early, and some days can be very long.

Reliability and willingness to learn are essential.

We would prefer that you hold a clean driving licence, a fork lift licence and are able to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes. You would also need to be living in the West Yorkshire area and able to get to our Garforth Depot. In return we offer a competitive rate of pay.

We are always on the lookout for talented and enthusiastic people to join the CGC team whether full time or seasonal. Please contact Liz Jones-Locke our recruitment officer on 0113 287 6387 or email lizjl@cgcevents.co.uk in the initial instance and she will give you the relevant details.
